It seemed to me that, this year, there were many more than usual public April Fools jokes. Trader Joe’s issued a press release that there were closing in 2017 (heaven forbid) in which the joke was revealed in the last line of the statement, Gwen Stefani posted a sonogram implying that she was pregnant with Blake Shelton’s baby (not true), and Samsung posted an ad introducing a new smartphone that looked suspiciously like a hands free phone circa 1995 stating in the ad that the phone was “ergonomically designed to perfectly fit in your hands, both of them.”
Also included in the April Fools Day fun was an ad from Esurance stating that they would sell you election insurance if you choose to leave the country after the election (no comment), Makewonder.com posted an ad indicating it had an app that could teach dogs how to code, and apparently, the trick that seem to garner the most public attention was from gmail in which they posted that they now had a drop mic feature on their email (Can someone 18 years old or younger to explain this one to me?).
The extent of my April Fools participation this year was to make a joke to the very tired judge (he was on day 45 of a continuing trial) I was appearing in front of for a minor conference. I was rewarded with a smile and a thank you. Did you prank anyone this year?
