The Baseball season appears not to be going the way I’d prefer. Many friends probably agree, if they root for the team based in Queens.
Still, many things remain to root for. One player, Jeff McNeil, pursues a batting title. Peter Alonso won the Home Run contest, shattered several Mets records for rookies (Homers, RBIs XBHs) and remains much in play for leading MLB in home runs. Thursday, I watched Jacob deGrom pitch seven shutout innings. I even "discovered" Gotham Plaza on the way back to my car.
Out with friends last night, we checked scores. A disappointed Yankees fan saw they lost again to the sox from Boston. We checked the Mets, saw the 3-0 score and then learned it was a final, another W for the Mets. And Steven Matz – we attended his exemplary first game – pitches a complete game shutout. So it goes. Perhaps a tease.
I next visit Citifield August 7. With the trade deadline one week earlier – this coming Wednesday, many pundit suggest changes that I may not welcome. The players I want the Mets to move might just remain. We’ll see what transpires. Very curious to see who takes the mound that day.
Will my team get hot....finally?
Stay tuned.
Home spring eternal in the summer.
