I really did not enjoy walking – but now I do.
When COVID started, like all of us we tried to find activities that checked off a few boxes – safe, out of the house, healthy. For a long time, checking those boxes was not easy.
Then we started walking. First, I walked every day with my daughter while she was home. When she moved out, a close friend and I started walking together once a week – socially distanced with masks of course. Weekend walks became family time – not for my son, but that is a different story.
Soon my walks became talking time – great time to catch up with friends and family. And please do not give away my secret – I have even been known to take a business call or two during a walk around my neighborhood.
Last week I walked to Penn Station (yes, I was in the office). I always considered that walk to be a huge chore. This time, it just felt like my afternoon walk around the neighborhood.
My new favorite walk is the after-dinner stride. The evening air cooled off from a hot summer day. Bliss. I have started to enjoy my evening walk so much, that it has been my second walk of the day.
Who knew?
