<p class="MsoNormal">On New Year’s Eve, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an amended version of the "Driver License Suspension Reform Act", ending the practice of suspending a person’s driver’s license when they cannot afford to pay a traffic fine. Under the Vehicle
and Traffic Law, a person can be charged with a criminal offense for driving with a suspended license, and face a period of incarceration.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">However, this act now reduces that likelihood as it limits the grounds for the suspension of a driver's license, provides for additional notification when a person is required to make an appearance, requires income based payment plans to
be available for fines, fees and mandatory surcharges incurred as a result of a violation of the vehicle and traffic law and makes conforming changes. This act shall take effect some time in April 2021.<o:p></o:p></p>
