[Promo] How Would Your Work Life Change with a Productive Environment?

Based on a Study from Stanford, the productivity of an employee who works
60 hours a week is a third less than an employee who works 40 hours.

There are any number of reasons for this:

1. The person in crunch mode is likely getting less sleep so more tired
during the work day.
2. Employee becomes less efficient due to stress and fatigue
3. Additional work done in the time beyond the first 6-8 hours of the day
can lead to negative productivity. The employee may make mistakes that have
to be corrected the next day.

What can you do to change this?

For most people their most productive time is the first 4 hours of their
day.

1. Make sure your first activity is the one that requires the greatest
concentration. I do client work in the morning and book my lunches,
coffees, emails and phone calls for the afternoon when I am not as sharp.
If the meeting is a client presentation or negotiation, I book it first
thing in the morning so I can be sharp.

Today I was working before 8am then had my first client call to review the
scope of work for their construction project. I knew I had to be 200% on my
game hence the early call.

2. Plan, plan, plan. If you have an important deadline - schedule out every
piece of it backwards. Give yourself realistic daily goals to work toward
the finish line.
My daily go to is Google Calendar for time blocking - free, easy and it
syncs with Vcita my client scheduling software.

But when it comes time to lay out a project, I love to use multi-colored
sticky notes. I lay out all of the tasks each on an individual sticky note
and indicate who is supposed to handle it - for example me, admin, tech. Do
I need additional education to accomplish one of those tasks? That gets
listed on a post-it note. And yes I color code based on task - marketing,
admin etc.

Then working backwards from the deadline I place the sticky notes in my
calendar and have my admin put the tasks into Asana with dates.

Haven't tried Asana? It's my favorite team project management tool and it's
free!

3. Spend the last 10 minutes of your day laying the groundwork for the next
morning.

What goals do you want to accomplish tomorrow? Write down your top 3.
Choose your number one item the day before and your subconscious mind will
work on it overnight.

Then straighten your desk so you have a clean slate tomorrow.
