[Promo] promo: New LinkedIn profile adjustments are coming: what you need to know!

Coming soon (perhaps you already have it), your personal LinkedIn profiles
will look a bit different. 

As before, there is no apparent logic when you will get these profile
changes as they trickle through the 564 million LinkedIn members. 

Nothing as big a change as last time, and you can manage them to your
advantage. 

Here's how to make these changes work best for you.

Changes to the top of your personal profile

Just shifts and movements in placement. The best I can show as a graphic of
my profile, as a proxy for yours, in the new format. 

Noteworthy:

*	Your headshot is now left-justified on your profile, still within
your background photo banner (be aware the new positioning may block some of
your banner when your headshot shifts leftward, perhaps requiring a change
to your banner). You do have a banner at the top, don't you?
*	The first three lines of your Summary will appear, rather than the
first 2 as it was until recently. That gives you one extra line to make the
reader want to read more about you. Try not to have words or phrases to
dangle at the end of line 3 if you can. It may take some work, but if I did
it, you can too.
*	Similarly, 6 graphic thumbnails will show across the bottom of your
Summary, rather than 2 across as it was until recently. That's 3x more to
entice a reader with visuals complementing your narrative!
*	The contact details section is being moved leftward as well, below
and under the banner. Be sure your contact details are complete and test the
links. Consider using your mobile number to receive texts from prospective
clients. 
*	Also, note the move leftward for the name of your latest educational
institution, your current company name, and the number of your connections.
*	This is being rolled out really slowly:

*	If your format changed, everyone else you look at on LinkedIn will
be in this new format, whether their profile has adjusted yet or not.
*	If theirs has not, they will still see your old format.

Skill category headings

You may have noticed LinkedIn categorized your skills.

The newly hatched skill categories are:

*	Top 3 Skills (in the top white background) 
*	Industry Knowledge
*	Interpersonal Skills
*	Language Skills (if applicable; I don't have any)
*	Other Skills

You didn't need to do anything for the skills to be categorized. LinkedIn
did this for you. 

But you want to review your skills section and probably make some
adjustments, and that is a decision you need to think through. 

A few observations:  

*	You cannot rename these group categories at this time.  
*	You cannot reorder the categories either at this time.
*	You cannot move a skill from one category to another at this time.
Perhaps someday for all three of these.
*	But you can easily reorder skills within a category: 

*	edit your skills section by clicking the blue pencil
*	using your left mouse button, click and hold it over the 4 small
horizontal lines you see associated with the skill
*	drag it up or down to the right order.

I reordered several skills within a category. It's simple and quick to make
changes. You should too.

The upshot

The changes to these critical sections are worth your time to review and
tweak. 

The Help Center entries have been updated to reflect these changes.

Thankfully, these changes do not dramatically impact the marketing concepts
