Separation and divorce are two of the most challenging events one can face. Even if this is viewed as a welcome opportunity and is addressed in a most cooperative, congenial, and mutually respectful fashion, although most unusual, one needs to be equipped to handle numerous obstacles. Some of them include dealing with new financial aspects, the legal process, relocation, and the changing landscape as it pertains to relationships with family and friends. Needless to say one also must handle our own abilities to deal with change. Many times this can be quite compromised by poorly handled and unresolved issues from the past. Another huge challenge pertains to effectively addressing the myriad needs of our children. Issues related to visiting, celebrating of holidays, and the possible prospects of becoming a blended family, are also fraught with upset.
