He is now on the list for a full liver from a cadaver, but it is likely that it will take a while for him to make his way to the top of that list, and receive a liver. His bilirubin levels have recently spiked, and time is of the essence, so we have focused our efforts on trying to find a live donor of a partial liver. Partial liver donors donate about half of their livers, and their livers then regenerate to about full size within several months after donation. While several family and friends have already volunteered to go through the screening process for that donation, there is no guarantee that any of them will be a complete match, and so they are trying to utilize all their contacts to see if they can cast a wider net. If you were able to send out a notice to your contacts, with information about how to enter the screening process for that partial liver donation to Saul Kurtz, Warren would be very grateful.</div><div><br></div><div>Saul is working with the Living Donor Transplantation Program at NYU Langone Transplant Institute. To be considered for partial liver donation, volunteers must go through a screening process. The initial criteria is based on blood type, and in Saul’s case his blood type is B (either positive or negative is ok), and he can also accept a liver from donors with blood type O (universal donor, again either positive or negative is ok). Donors have to be less than 56 years of age, and in his case, preferably male. The link to the NYU Langone Living Liver Donor Transplant screening application is <a href="https://redcap.link/nyuliverdonor" target="_blank">https://redcap.link/nyuliverdonor</a> That link will get prospective donors to the initial candidate profile questionnaire. If, after review of that application by NYU, the prospective candidate is deemed a possible match for partial donation, then NYU will contact the applicant about next steps in testing.
