We found that to be difficult realizing that there were so many worthy charities. I then came up with the idea of giving to all of them a few at a time. Using the concept of a lottery, we then collectively figured out the rest.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>It was brought to tribal council who ,after a few deliberations, agreed to try it. Debbie Lindner, our previous Executive Director, coined it the Summer of Gotham Giving which since morphed into the annual campaign. (Those are the correct facts for historical record.)</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>The first year we raised $2500 and the Welles Remy Crowther charity, think Red Bandana, received the award. Since that time 30 -35 different charities have received $2500 -$5000 rewards because of all of us at Gotham.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>Fred has led the success of this initiative through most of it. Marc Halpert, Raj Goel and Corey Bearak have all been beacons to ensure it continues by the consistent generosity of what they do along with other Gothamites who took monthly turns matching donations. But in the end it has been all of us over many years that contribute to what has made this a unique, very simple, very successful and very meaningful way of contributing to the greater good.</span> <span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>For that I am incredibly grateful that this grew into what I had hoped it could be– a legacy that lives beyond just this generation. Something that Welles Remy Crowther did by saving the lives of some people who now go on to support or create new generations to this world because of his bravery. Each of us has the potential to accomplish the goal in smallest of acts too. It is not by accident that the universe picked his charity as the first recipient of our efforts. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>I also became a recipient 11 years later in the name of my twin brother who I lost that year to the devastation that Diabetes did to 3 generations of my family. It was never something I entertained when the idea was originated. I felt it belonged to others. The joy of seeing how so many people, including my family, have benefitted by 3 people who brainstormed it to become a few hundred-thousand dollars 14 years later is something we can all be proud of. </span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>Please continue the legacy. It is unique. It is impressive. It is valuable.
