[Fredslist] Out of the Boxes ....

Gotham was unleashed - living outside our Zoom boxes and there was plenty of fun to be had at the first Gotham luncheon at the Friars Club since a Pandemic ago. 

Creating screen shots at Zoom meetings is easy, it was impossible to capture an image of the entire collection of characters in attendance. Unconstrained by Zoom technology it was a jumble of conversations with everyone moving around from start to finish. Hence the jumble of photos. 

As with all Gotham meetings, there was plenty of laughter and myriad expressions of gratitude. Nancy Schess, curated the meeting, interspersing some Gotham history. 

We had new members, seasoned members, “first time at the Friars Club members, Friars Club Member members, and even a rapping member. Bruce Swicker did a great job with name-tagging us - note that the tags stay on better when on Zoom. 

The food was absolutely delish! The “commercials” were reminders of the breadth and depth of professional experience we have as a community and the shared memories served as a reminder of the power of Gotham networking. 

It is true that “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”  Zingers, side-eye glances - yes, there were those. There were moments some were clearly left a bit farklempt. There was old news and soon-to-be-announced news. The Rap was new, the desire to help each other was not. As always many of us lingered, savoring every moment of camaraderie. 

Members came from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and CT. More than 10 Gotham groups were represented. Fred was missed. Norman did a quick visit and shared a joke - I don’t remember it but I can tell you Paula Oleska laughed. Corey Bearak was not multitasking. And Raj Goel actually thought he could control the elevator. Every seat was a power seat - it was a room of “brain candy” according to Kelly Wells. 

Of course, there will be more opportunities to meet at the Friars and plenty of other Gotham activities are scheduled in the interim. Don’t miss out …
