This feud seemingly was about a recipe for Italian sauce…Growing with with 2 Italian grandmothers - one in Queens & one in Brooklyn, one calling hers gravy, the other sauce - and even 2 great grandmothers, I was totally immersed in the rivalries about who made the best sauce (I will call it sauce for this email). Too much sugar, not enough spice, with meat, what kind of meat, put in a potato, put a carrot in the sauce…on and on…luckily I liked them all and didn’t have to choose sides, I was a pudgy kid. Though it may have come to shouting, no one ever was killed…..

Truly some of the best Italian food can be eaten in Brooklyn & Queens so if it’s making you hungry I encourage you to try some and if you have never been to see he Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights you are missing a great New York Tradition!
