Subject: NYC Real Estate Tax Question and Possible Referral

Received an inquiry from a person who inherited his mother's house.   She had been entitled to a Senior Citizen/enhanced STAR credit.   He notified the city (by letter) after her death in 2003, but they did not adjust his taxes.   This year he made a more formal application for the change in status.   He was assessed and billed for taxes for the 2010-2015 periods.   His online account shows taxes for the prior years (for which he has not been billed).   Will  NYC bill for those earlier years and is it possible to get some type of reduction?   The amounts are adding up.
