Many weeks ago I asked for a referral to a naturopath for my daughter who was sick.  I received so many suggestions and stories of similar illnesses and what  to check for.  John Dugan, a new member who has a physical therapy center in Farmingdale and is a member of the Leftys Group  and other group called me and said before I see a naturopath I need to get a diagnosis and the best place to go is Columbia Presbyterian.  He walked me through calling the referral service, they would refer me to a doctor at Columbia, he gave me the number and his cell phone number and said if I had any problem or questions to call him.  I was so comforted to hear that Columbia Presbyterian was the place with the best and brightest and most comprehensive of medical services.  The referral service was better than wonderful.  Yesterday we met with the neurologist who diagnosed my daughter with Kleine Levin syndrome, a rare sleeping disorder that causes bouts of nonstop 20 hrs/day of sleeping in cycles that can last days or weeks, followed by periods of complete absence of any symptoms.  Sounds awful?  Actually, it was a relief to know and to get advice on what to do.  And the doctor said "you don't have to travel from Ridgefield to here if you need to speak to me"  He gave me his email address and beeper number = complete immediate access.  Previously, I could not get our neurologist in Danbury to return a call.  What do I love about Gotham?  The people, their hearts, their willingness and desire to help.  Lucas Meyer had responded to my posting with several emails, offering to get me to a neurologist asap.  One was to tell me  when he was growing up , the child of a neighbor had Kleine Levin syndrome.  I read about it and was fully familiar before seeing the Dr.  Truly you can find anything on fredslist but it is because of the people in Gotham.
Thank you to everyone who thought they had information that might be helpful and reached out to me.  Thank you John Dugan for being spot on and taking the time to call me, walk me through it all and be an ongoing resource.  I only hope I can return the goodness to you and do right by everyone else in this wonderful organization.
