[Fredslist] very quick trademark question

I successfully filed a trademark for my company a few months ago
and recently received this proposition randomly from
a FL law firm.

Curious if what they are saying is something necessary,
or ridiculous.

And if necessary, why wouldn't the USPTO inform me?

The Notice of Allowance is a written notice mailed in intent-to-use
applications when the examining attorney approves the mark, signifying that
everything is acceptable for registration purposes BUT for the fact that
the mark has not yet actually been used in commerce.

A Statement of Use must be filed within six (6) months after the mailing
date (June 3, 2014) of the Notice of Allowance (i.e., December 3, 2014);
UNLESS, within that same period, we submit a request for a six-month
extension of time to file the Statement of Use. The Statement must be
accompanied by a specimen of the mark as used in commerce. Attached to
this e-mail I have included a document which provides an explanation of
what constitutes acceptable specimens.

Our law firm can assist you in drafting and submitting the Statement of Use
along with the relevant Specimen of Use to the USPTO. The charges
associated with this step are $ 150 in attorneys' fees plus $100 per
International Class, which in this case includes 1 class(es) and total
$250.

If you are interested in retaining our law firm to perform the above
mentioned services, please let me know so I can send you a retainer
agreement along with a credit card authorization form or further payment
instructions."

Much thanks for any advice,

Josh Wagner
