Hi Kelly and Gotham Tribe,

I saw your post and wanted to share some information with you and the Tribe.  I am in the Gotham Commerce Group and because of my position here at Valley National Bank, I am also a board member of the 47th Street Business Improvement District “BID”.

I’d like to share some information with you about the diamond and jewelry industries.  Together these industries, located here in the Diamond District, account for over $24 billion of economic activity.  Here are some additional interesting tidbits of information based on an economic study that was performed a few years ago:

New York City’s  Diamond District is one of our region’s premier economic engines.  As indicated in, The Perfect Setting  the BID’s Economic Impact Study, it is a critical generator of revenue and jobs.

v  The diamond and jewelry businesses in NYC generated $24.183 Billion in economic impact

v  The total added value to New York City’s economy is $4.2 Billion

v  Diamonds are New York State’s number one export product by dollar value.

Our Executive Director, Michael Grumet, along with myself and other board members would love to extend an invitation to

You, your Savvy Ladies Group and our beloved Gotham groups to come and visit with us to learn about the industry.

We would like to  hold a meet-and-greet complimentary breakfast to familiarize your group with of leading merchants here on 47th street.

We have already had successful events for The New York City Partnership, The Cosmopolitan Club, The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, Organization of Women in International Trade and Finance and The Greater New York Chamber of Commerce.

The event would start with a complimentary networking breakfast followed by a short presentation about the history of the district and its economic importance to our region.  BID members then make short presentations about their specialties fields. We could even arrange a behind the scenes tour of; diamond cutters, gold smelters and bench jewelers.  These men and women supply many of the retailers we know and love.
