[Fredslist] Redemption for a Sugar Addict

I knew I had hit rock bottom when I couldn't stop licking the cupcake icing off the side of the cardboard box.



My husband said I had self-control, but that I was choosing not to exercise it. He was wrong. I was an addict, powerless against the lure of sugary treats.  Even the threat of pre-diabetes was no longer sufficient to stop me for reaching whatever cake, cookie, pastry lay before me. I wasn't hungry; I didn't have cravings;  I didn't just sit around and think "Gee I'd love a Twinkie"...but if it was in front of me, I was powerless to resist.



It was time for an intervention. Don't ask me how - but I ended up on Susan Cleary's Productive Health website. Her "Kick Pre-Diabetes to the Curb" concept caught my eye. I was desperate, ashamed of my clandestine eating habits (in the house, everything sweet had to be locked away), overweight, unhappy with the way my clothes fit (or rather, didn't fit)...



I contacted Susan and she patiently explained how she could help. She spoke in terms I could understand, not some doctor mumble-jumble. Her plan was easy to implement, something I felt I could do, and was very encouraging. For the first time, I began to see a light at the end of the sugar tunnel.



3 months later, I have lost 15 pounds and feel great. But more importantly, I can actually walk by the cookies, take a look, and keep on walking. Or I can eat just one and not feel like I have to finish the whole box. This is a major accomplishment for me. Like an alcoholic walking through a bar and not having a drink.
