Controller Job Description

 

Position

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Controller will be
responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting
activities. As the top financial executive at the company, the Controller
will be involved in supporting presentations to the Board of Directors and
will work closely with the senior leadership team. The Controller will lead
all day-to-day finance operations, including functional responsibility over
accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. 

 

This is an opportunity in a relatively young brand/company (6-7 years) that
is well-funded and growing strongly.  The position being created is the
first full-time financial role in the company's history.  Accordingly, you
must be willing to roll-up your sleeves and do all, and work towards growing
a finance department as the company grows further.

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and compensation and can include
long-term stock options.

 

Responsibilities

*	Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring
compliance with appropriate GAAP standards.
*	Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue,
costs, and budgets and actual expenditures.
*	Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in
an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and
annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior
leadership abreast of XYZ Nonprofit's financial status;
*	Oversee all financial reporting and accounting; ensure that
expenditures are consistently aligned with annual budgets. Update budget to
monthly forecast in coordination with the COO and senior management.
*	Manage organizational annual budget and monthly cash flow
forecasting processes.
*	Review all client chargebacks and coordinate all responses to ensure
accuracy, and ongoing improvement
*	Be the company's main contact point with company lenders, banks and
CPA firm.

 

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with five to seven
years of accounting and finance experience, ideally working in small and
mid-size apparel industry companies.  Other qualifications include:

*	Staff accountant or Controller experience in a companies that
managed inventory / COGS, with revenues from start-up to $30 million;
*	Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering
commitment to the company and its brand
*	Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred
*	Solid experience in managing reporting, budget development and
analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll
*	Technology savvy; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting
software
*	Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows
for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
*	Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in
effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior
management, board or other outside partners
*	Ability and desire to translate financial concepts to individuals at
all levels including finance and non-finance managers
