The Thanksgiving Good Old Days

We've always loved Thanksgiving and it's still one of favorite holidays.  But we got thinking this week about how simpler Thanksgiving used to be.  So here's a little walk down memory lane.

Thanksgiving's of Yore...

  *   You called people on the phone to invite them for Thanksgiving - no cells or email.
  *   Kids piled into the car to head to Grandma's without car seats or seat belts. Some kids even sat in the middle front seat.
  *   If you flew to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, you were sophisticated, wore your Sunday clothes,  and it was fun!
  *   You watched the Macys' Day parade on a black & white TV with a tiny screen in a huge cabinet.
  *   No one asked if the turkey was organic, free range, or antibiotic free.
  *   Kale wasn't on the menu.
  *   No one asked if there was anything gluten free.
  *   Sugar, fat, and butter ruled. And real cream too.
  *   People actually smoked at the table after dinner.
  *   Martinis, rum & coke, scotch and soda were served before, during, and after dinner.
  *   You didn't worry about what wine went best with turkey - there wasn't any wine unless you count the sherry.
  *   If you forgot something for the meal, there was no such thing as popping into the super market - they were all closed.
  *   Someone always baked a sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top.
  *   And the dreaded jello mold thing always showed up too.
  *   No one had to say, please do not text at the dinner table.
  *   You  didn't Facebook about being with your friends and family -  you just enjoyed being face to face with them.
  *   You couldn't have imaged leaving your family to go shopping in the evening.
  *   Black Friday hadn't been invented by retailers.
  *   You couldn't hit the pause button on the football games, or record it for later.
  *   There wasn't a Christmas decoration in sight.
  *   Life was real, played out in real time.

But some things never change, and that's the chance to pause and think about all the things we are truly grateful for today and every day, one of which is all of you.  We thank you for your support, your loyalty, your kind words from time to time, and for inspiring us to enjoy and celebrate life.
