Thank you for your heartfelt, humbling words below. However, it does not come as a surprise to any of us who know you or Lucas that Fred would exercise his well-honed instinct for choosing each of you as the 2013 Gotham Networkers of the Year Award: you both personify the Gotham spirit in your genuine caring for others, your countless kindnesses and selfless contributions to a better world inside and outside of Gotham. You both light up any room and every person you encounter.

As the person who is in charge of the Gotham events, I arrived at the Friars early as usual. I checked on the AV for the orientation , double checked the room layout, made sure that the sponsor  materials were in place, etc, etc.  

I then went to my usual corner at the bar where I schmoozed with my fellow Gothamites, had a drink or two, ate some food (I thought the sliders and the corned beef were the winners), and told a few of my old Borscht Belt jokes.

Then it was time for me to introduce Nancy to start the proceedings, which I did.  As I started to return to my place at the bar,  Fred whispered to me to stay there with him. I thought that he wanted me to help with the awards or pictures or something like that.

Then it hit the fan. Mitch Tobol got up to give one of the networker of the year awards.  As soon as he said "this is the guy that introduced me to networking 20 years ago" I realized why Fred asked me to stay.

I can honestly say that I was shocked.  I didn't even know that I would be ever even considered as a candidate.  It was one of the very few times in my life when I couldn't think of an old one liner to say.  I even think that I teared up a little. 

My sincerest thanks to all my fellow Gothamites and congratulations to fellow awardee Lucas Meyer.  It is an honor to be part of a special group along with Bob Formica, Corey Bearak and 
all the other networker of the year recipients
