I hope you are all safe and recovering. One consequence of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy is the loss in value of damaged real property.  If your property has been harmed by Sandy you should call and write to the Assessor explaining the damage and requesting an assessment reduction. Hopefully the severest damages will result in immediate assessment reduction.
                However, be mindful that a call or a letter does not quality as a legal protest.  Complaints must still be filed in January 2013 to protest  your assessment and protect your rights. We have not found special phone numbers for Suffolk Towns; Village tax assessments  must also be separately complained about.
