For those of you who are angry at LIPA, the reason for their incompetence
is documented below:

They are owned and operated by the State of New York. Its executives are
political hacks getting their share of the public's largesse.

They, like most government employees, are not subject to any accountability
for performance. They are a protected class who just does not care.

If you are really interested in having your voice heard, start to write Gov
Cuomo and your respective state senators and representatives. Start by
asking why, at this crucial time, there is no CEO or President.

How come the media does not tell you who is at fault if all one has to do
is Google it.

The *Long Island Power Authority* or LIPA [ "lie-pah" ], a municipal
subdivision[*citation
needed<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed>
*] of the State of New York <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York>, was
created under the Long Island Power Act of 1985 to acquire the Long Island
Lighting Company
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_Lighting_Company>(LILCO)'s
assets and securities. A second Long Island Power Authority
(LIPA), a wholly owned subsidiary of the first, acquired LILCO's
transmission and distribution system in May 1998.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric
utility<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_utility>,
owns the retail electric system on Long Island and provides electric
service to over 1.1 million customers in
Nassau<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nassau_County,_New_York>and
Suffolk <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffolk_County,_New_York> counties,
and the Rockaway Peninsula <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockaway,_Queens>in
Queens <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens>. LIPA does not own any
electric generation assets on Long
Island<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island>,
and it does not provide natural gas service.

National Grid USA <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Grid_plc#USA>,
previously Keyspan Energy <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KeySpan>, maintains
LIPAs transmission and distribution system under a management services
agreement. On December 15, 2011, LIPA selected
PSEG<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSEG>to take over management and
operation of the electric grid, starting in
January 2014.[1]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_Power_Authority#cite_note-1>

LIPA's transmission voltages are 345,000, 138,000 and 69,000 volts,
subtransmission voltages are 33,000 and 23,000 volts, and distribution
voltages are 13,200 and 4,000 volts.

On January 24, 2007, then-Governor Eliot
Spitzer<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliot_Spitzer>announced that
Kevin Law would replace Richard
Kessel <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Kessel> as Chairman of LIPA
until the fall when a new Chairman would be named and Law would become
Chief Executive Officer of
LIPA.[2]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_Power_Authority#cite_note-2>On
October 8, 2007, Law took over as President and CEO.

Kevin Law stepped down on September 1, 2010 in order to become the new
President of the Long Island
Association<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_Association>.
Chief Operating Officer Michael Hervey assumed the responsibilities until a
new CEO and President is selected by the LIPA Board of Trustees.
