[Fredslist] Short Term NYC accommodations

A friend's mom is having open heart surgery at Mt. Sinai on January 18th and she will need to be in NYC for a month for follow-up visits etc, before returning home to Virginia. Does anyone have thoughts on long term accommodations or apts that she could rent in NYC at a fairly reasonable rate?
