Every now and then someone asks one of the Linkedin groups I belong to if anyone has gotten any business from being a part of it. The answer is "no." What it is good for I think, aside from some very enjoyable group discussions, is for search consultants like me to find potential candidates for jobs we are working on.

I do not look at LinkedIn right now as a way to make substantial business contacts.

I try to use it as an ancillary confirmation of who I am through the use of recommendations and the type of people on my contact list.

What I have found amazing is how LinkedIn seems to know who I know.
They just asked me if I knew someone I have not had contact with in a decade and that person lives in England

Some of my clients use it as a way to stay in front of everyone on their contact list by posting what is happening or telling all some new information.
