There were 235 sex assaults through Feb. 27, 2011, up from 175 during the
same period last year, according to New York City Police Department (NYPD)
statistics. While the number of murders, robberies and burglaries are down
in New York City, reported rape cases have spiked 34.3 percent since the
start of 2011. "Rape is a very different type of violent crime, and there's
some concern that the bad guys might be getting the upper hand because the
Police Department is stretched so thin," said former cop and prosecutor
Eugene O'Donnell, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

her Bachelors degree in Communications from Northwestern University. She
