Happy Valentine's Day Along the Network
Want to improve dating conversation? Any conversation?
My Goddaughter Nadja Hansen, a young editor at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, is featured in a delightful video about how taking a date (mate, partner,
spouse, son, daughter or business colleague(s) to the Met can actually enrich
conversation, get one away from formulaic "How's Your Life? Job? etc." to
thought-provoking, conversation-enhancing insights and observations that
romantic art -- indeed any art -- can inspire. It's a great way to find out how
people think. How they react. How they perceive. How compatible you may be or
how well you may work together. Please go to
http://www.metmuseum.org/connections.com. Click on photo second from right and
click play. Please scroll below to review Met newsletter commentary. The
world will be hearing more from Nadja.

February 2011 MET NEWS: CONNECTIONS
Featured Episode
Romancing the Met
Dear Met News subscriber,
Throughout our galleries you will find works of art that celebrate love and
sensuality. The Met is an excellent place to bring a date, and Editorial
Assistant Nadja Hansen provides us with a charming guide to some of the Museum's
most romantic paintings, sculptures, and spaces in the Connections episode "Date
Night." From the subtly amorous Woman with a Lute to the frankly erotic Loving
couple (mithuna), the Metropolitan has the perfect conversation starter for your
own date night.
Featured Episode: "Date Night"
Hansen highlights "wonderful spaces in the Museum that just by their very nature
exude romance," such as the Grand Salon >From the Hôtel de Tessé. Which galleries
or works would you share with a date? Are there any you might shy away from?
Venus and Cupid by Lorenzo Lotto is a "tenth-date type of work" for Hansen,
whereas Fragonard's The Love Letter is a comfortable first-date choice. View the
episode.
What's your connection? Join a conversation about a Connections episode on
Facebook or Twitter. Alternatively, you may answer questions related to "Date
Night" in an easy-to-use survey. We've been receiving such excellent responses
from all of you; see a sampling in this Now at the Met article.
New Connections episodes will air every Wednesday. In addition to "Date Night,"
yesterday's program also featured "Lincoln and the Civil War" by Senior Vice
President for External Affairs Harold Holzer. Check back on February 16 for
"Hemingway" by Curator Seán Hemingway and "Jewelry" by Greek and Roman
Department Administrator Debbie Kuo.

Romancing the Met
Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so why not plan a romantic afternoon
or evening at the Met? Join us on Sunday, February 13, to enjoy the gentle
melodies of guitarist Odair Assad. (Tickets are $40 and may be purchased
online.) Dazzle your date with your knowledge of guitar music by brushing up in
advance. Visit the new Guitar Heroes: Legendary Craftsmen from Italy to New York
exhibition and learn about the work of three remarkable luthiers—John
D'Angelico, James D'Aquisto, and John Monteleone—and what inspires them about
the sights and sounds of New York City. The related online feature includes
interviews and performances with these artists—and more. Much of this material
is also available in our multimedia app, available as a free download from
iTunes. See the exhibition preview for more information, including sponsorship
credits.
