[Fredslist] sales tax question

I have a nonprofit tax question

A 501c3 I work with in Syracuse is thinking of selling t-shirts online to
raise some funds. Not going to amount to very much at all.

Their CPA has told them to keep the online sale of items low key or the NYS
tax authorities will take notice. 

 

What's the story on this? Is he correct or is this a myth?
