amNewYork is seeking self-starter reporter. Ideal candidate will help drive coverage; break news; work a beat; write on deadline and thrive in a fast-paced workplace.

 

DUTIES:

- Generate and write daily stories and sidebars on deadline. Regularly produce longer cover stories and projects.

- Identify trends and the stories of the day.

- Work with supervisors on spot coverage and long-term planning.

- Make daily contributions to our blogs

- When in the office attend daily and long-term planning meetings.

 

SKILLS:

- Solid news judgment and the ability to excel on tight deadlines.

- Write clear, accurate, well-crafted news and feature stories.

- Excellent editing and communication skills.

- Juggle daily stories, weekenders and projects.

- Use and understand a broad base of information systems, including wires, data banks of governmental agencies and private organizations, and various other research materials.

   

REQUIREMENTS:

- 5+ years experience working at a newspaper or wire service.

- Ability to break news, cultivate sources and generate sharp stories ideas.

- Familiarity with New York City.

- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field.
