[Fredslist] Advice on Extremely High Bills from National Grid

I am hoping that someone can provide my husband and I with some advice.
We had a very large gas bill last month, and since then, we have been
extremely careful with the heat, the gas fireplaces, doing laundry
mostly in cold water, etc. I called to speak with someone at National
Grid, and we read my meter, which she told me his higher than last
month. We have a call in for someone to speak with us about this, as I
am very concerned how you can conserve as much as we have been, and I am
now being told that my meeting reading is higher than last month. I
would like to know if anyone has any advice or information on a
situation like this. Yes, last month we did use our gas fireplaces, but
we have been using them all along, and never had a bill as high as the
current one. I was told that we could have someone come out to the
house, but I am concerned if they give me the line, "that everyone is
going through this and there is nothing they can do'". Also we did
major construction a few years ago, so all doors and windows are new and
energy efficient, we insulated very well, new water heater, new
efficient washing machine; we tried to do everything the right way.

Thank you for any advice,

Janet
