[Fredslist] Promo - IRS PLR allows using Periodic Payments in
Employment Cases to defer compensation of non-wage recovery

Did you know -
In June the IRS issued a Private Letter Ruling allowing non-wage compensation in employment cases (a taxable event) to be issued as periodic payments deferring the settlement and the tax consequences.
How does this benefit the plaintiff/tax payer who was suing his employer? Instead of paying taxes on the non-wage portion of the settlement right away this amount can be deferred and grow at a guaranteed rate of return.
Tax payer can have the award/settlement paid over time, the principle grows tax deferred and they only pay taxes on the periodic payments when they are received.
As stated in the ruling 'the taxpayer can address her desire to use the settlement as a source for meeting future needs, including retraining and financial planning.'
If you would like to learn more about this or just see a copy of the PLR please contact me.
