Good News for Those Who Deduct their Mileage or Receive Reimbursement for
the Use of their Car

The Internal Revenue Service has announced an increase in the business
standard mileage rate - the rate used to compute the deductible costs of
operating an automobile for business - to 58.5 cents a mile for all business
miles driven from July 1, 2008, through Dec. 31, 2008. This is an increase
of 8 cents from the 50.5 cent rate in effect for the first six months of
2008. The Medical and Non-Profit mileage rate has also increased, from 27
cents per mile for medical and 14 cents for non-profit. These increases will
help compensate for the rise in gas prices. Make sure you keep accurate
records indicating the date and purpose of your trips along with the amount
of miles you've driven. Don't forget to save parking and toll receipts as
well.
