My dear family and friends,

 

I am writing this letter to tell you of a critical situation and to ask for
your help.  We just discovered that my niece, Sarah, who is just 17, has a
rare medical disorder, Wilson's disease, that has totally destroyed her
liver.  She is currently in the critical care unit of Philadelphia
Childrens' Hospital and desperately needs a liver transplant.  This terrible
development caught us all by complete surprise, as Sarah was happy and
apparently healthy until a couple days ago when she fell ill and had to be
airlifted from St. Thomas back to the U.S. on Monday, August 18, 2008  for
emergency care.  Each day is now critical as she awaits a donor liver.  she
only has days to live.  Unfortunately, no family member is qualified to be a
partial donor and, as you may know, organs are difficult to find and match,
even for someone like Sarah, who is a priority patient on the regional organ
transplant list.  Here's how you can help.  If you know or hear of an event
or circumstance that could lead to a viable liver donation, please contact
me immediately.  My cell phone number is 732-547-3232.  I realize that this
request is highly unusual, but so is our dilemma.  We and Sarah need all the
help we can get to locate an acceptable donor organ.  Perhaps, you will be
the contact that saves Sarah's life.

She deserves it.
