Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, Inc. is a tax-exempt organization that
operates an educational retreat center on 195 acres in Rhinebeck, NY. As we
start our 31st year, we are gratified to have taught and practiced in such
fields as meditation, alternative health, sustainability, women¹s issues,
wellness, creativity, spirituality, and social activism.
 
Our fundraising department consists of 4 dedicated staff members who are
inspired by Omega¹s mission to offer educational experiences that bring hope
and healing to individuals and society. We seek a senior development person
who can strengthen current programs, expand our existing donor base, and
manage comprehensive capital and planned giving campaigns.
 
Job description: The Senior Development Officer will be responsible for
expanding the development program at Omega, cultivating donors, directing
and implementing fundraising campaigns, including an Omega membership
program. As a member of the Institutional Advancement team, the Senior
Development Officer will participate in all elements of fundraising
activities and report to Directors of Institutional Advancement and External
Affairs. 
 
Responsibilities Include:
 
* In coordination with Institutional Advancement and External Affairs
Directors, assist in developing an annual fundraising plan. Monitor plan and
set benchmarks for success.
* Proactively pursue and identify new development opportunities, including
foundation, individual, and corporate support.
* Write grant proposals and reports, membership solicitation letters, and
special event materials. Conceive and make recommendations for donor
cultivation-marketing materials. Coordinate publication for all solicitation
materials. 
* Cultivate and identify major gift prospects and provide background and
support for soliciting gifts.
* Support and enhance the work of the Director of Institutional Advancement,
the Director of External Affairs and the Executive Director in major gift
solicitation and stewardship of high profile relationships.
* Assist in developing efforts to diversify the donor base and build
capacity for increasing annual giving and establishing an endowment fund.
* Assess and improve the infrastructure for monitoring and administering the
donor cycle. This will include improving the utility of the development
database, ensuring reliable gift processing, fulfillment and reporting
procedures, and the prospective donor management system.
* Coordinate the efforts of internal staff in cultivating major prospects.
* Develop and manage web-based fundraising.
* Recruit, organize and work with volunteers and support them in development
efforts. 
* Prepare reports for donors, internal staff, and the board of directors.
 
 
 
Skill/Qualities Required/Desired:
 
The successful candidate will be a seasoned fund-raising professional with
6-8 years¹ experience who can build relationships with major gifts
prospects, has experience in special events, direct mail, and corporate and
foundation solicitations. The person selected must be available to travel
both regionally and nationally.
 
Additional skills required include:
 
* Proven track record of securing major gifts.
* Ability to passionately and persuasively articulate Omega¹s vision to a
variety of constituencies.
* Strong working knowledge of Planned Giving programs.
* Excellent written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
* Experience in prospect research methods, online and other sources.
* Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Raiser¹s Edge.
