Dear Gotham,

Please pass this information on to those you know who are looking for work
and passing their resumes.
There is a scam circulating among Craigslist and other job boards.

The scam solicits resumes for jobs. The alleged employer then emails you
that they will be sending you something via
UPS, Fedex, or what ever. A few days later a check arrives (our amount was
$3200). There is no note or instructions.
It looks legitimate and states that it is certified. Those that don't know
what a certified check looks like could easily be fooled.
Those looking for work and think that the check is legitimate will deposit
the check and ask questions later.

My husband called the bank and they stated it was fraudulant. He is turning
the information over to the police as I write this and
notifying UPS who delivered it this morning. My husband looked up the email
he received several days ago and asked why they would be sending
him something. They responded that it would be a check they need him to
deposit for a client as a way of determining his candidacy. They suggested
he
keep 10% for commission. There is no money in the checking account and it
is a way of getting access to your checking account.

We've all received emails begging our support to deposit funds from oversea,
but this one goes several elaborate steps further preying on people who are
looking to secure new positions. I'm sure there are many other versions of
this idea not involving job seekers, but at least we can empower those that
we know with this information to protect them.

Warmest Regards
Ester Horowitz
