Cool poetry reading coming up at this avant garde East Village gallery.  Check it out!

 Bowery Women to read at Tribes Gallery Sunday, February 11th, 5-7 p.m.

A Gathering of the Tribes presents a poetry reading featuring poets from Bowery Women:  Poems, at the Tribes Gallery, 285 East 3rd Street (bet. avenues C & D) on Sunday, February 11th, from 5 to 7 p.m.  

Poets to be featured at the Tribes reading are (alphabetically by first name) 
Amy Ouzoonian, Deanna Zandt, May Joseph, Nancy Mercado, Tara Betts and Tsaurah Litzky.  

Bowery Women:  Poems is a new anthology which features signature poems from 76 women poets, established and emerging, each of whom has entertained, delighted, and shocked audiences at the Bowery Poetry Club.  Edited by Bob Holman and Marjorie Tesser, is the latest release from Bowery Books.  

A Gathering of the Tribes is an arts and cultural organization dedicated to excellence in the arts from a diverse perspective. Tribes Gallery is a performance venue and meeting place for artists and audiences to come together across all artistic disciplines, all levels of complexity, and all definitions of difference.

 Amy Ouzoonian is a poet, playwright, founder of Lock 'n Load Press, an editor for A Gathering of the Tribes magazine. She has edited two anthologies, the most recent In the Arms of Words: Poems for Disaster Relief (Sherman Asher Publishing 2005) and written a book of poems, Your Pill (Foothills Press 2005).  Deanna Zandt- An artist, activist, producer, writer, consultant and self-styled "geek wizard", she is a contributing editor at AlterNet.  Deanna uses her work to speak progressive values from the heart, beyond the choir, to a wider America.  May Joseph is a theater director and essayist.  She teaches cultural studies at Pratt Institute and is currently working with the Penny Jones Puppet Theater Company.  May has performed, directed and dramaturged poets theater in India and the US.  Nancy Mercado is a poet and editor who holds a doctoral degree from Binghamton University- SUNY. She is the author of It Concerns The Madness (Long Shot Productions) and the forthcoming Rooms for the Living: New York Poems, with an introduction by Ishmael Reed.  Tara Betts, former Administrative Director of Bowery Arts & Science, is completing her MFA at New England College.  Her work was adapted by Steppenwolf Theater and featured on HBO's "Def Poetry Jam," and has appeared in many magazines and journals. Tara also teaches. Tsaurah Litzky teaches at New School and Bowery Poetry Club.   Her latest books are The Motion Of the Ocean, part of Three the Hard Way, a series of erotic novellas edited by Susie Bright (Simon and Schuster 2004) and a chapbook, Blake Haunts Me (Snapdragon Press 2005).
