Are you aware that anyone with employees is subject to OSHA (Occupational
Safety and Health Act) standards?
We tend to think of people in construction and other heavy duty industries
as being the ones who are at risk.but everyone's at risk for accidents in
the workplace.
Some of the industries with the greatest number of OSHA violations are the
healthcare (especially nursing homes) and trucking/delivery (think Fedex,
DHL & UPS) industries.
But office accidents occur as well - the unanchored file cabinet that falls
and injures someone or the misplaced electrical box on the floor that
someone eventually trips over.
When OSHA levies fines as part of their enforcement role, the amounts
quickly escalate from a warning to $7,000, then to $70,000 if, according to
the inspector, it is a willful violation.
Homeland Safety conducts safety audits and safety training for employees,
customized to the environment.
Typically we recommend changes to the physical space and improvements in
recordkeeping.
As for training in an office setting, employees are made aware of ergonomics
and the risk of repetitive motion.
For a print shop, typical training includes hazardous material handling and
proper lifting techniques.
Our courses are taught by approved OSHA instructors and can be given in our
training center or your facility.
If you want to know more, give me a call to discuss safety in the workplace.
Regards,
Bill
