This week the New York Rangers held a Press Conference announcing one of their best free agent signings yet.  A young kid out of New Jersey named Chris Falcone.

Falcone had been playing ice hockey since the age of 7, when at the beginning of his Freshman year, he was diagnosed with cancer and told that he would never play hockey again.  After battling through chemptherapy, a hip replacement and a full body cast, Falcone's heart and determination saw him fight his way back onto the rink again.  The Rangers kindly extended an offer to him to skate with them at their practice last Thursday.  As if skating with the team wasn't enough, the Rangers proceeded to hold a press conference with the 15 year-old Falcone, officially signing him to a one day contract to join the team.  Falcone dressed with the Rangers and warmed up with them before their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night.

In an era where we hear all of the bad circumstances around sports, it's nice to hear just one of the many incredible ways that pro sports and athletes help enrich the lives of their fans.  The Rangers have always been one of the classiest organizations in all of sports.  We get to hear only of small fraction of the many great things that these teams and players do for those in the community.  The Rangers were paid off by the hockey gods with an overtime victory, and the players named Falcone player of the game.
