Einstein used the phrase, "spooky things at a distance", to describe the randomness of quantum mechanics, specifically when one particle instantaneously reacts to the effect of an observation of another particle very far away from it. He rejected that notion as it ran counter to his theory of special relativity. As he said, "God does not play dice." Anyway, I like the phrase, "spooky action at a distance."
The other morning I was making coffee and getting ready for work when suddenly into my head popped Tom Jones singing "What's New Pussycat." I am not a Tom Jones fan and do not listen to his music, but for some reason it stuck in my head and I hummed it as I showered. Here is the spooky part - when I got into my car and turned on Sirius 60's on 6, there was Tom Jones singing "What's New Pussycat." I immediately called Eve to tell her something spooky had just happened.
That same afternoon I was walking on Bowery south of Houston when I looked up and noticed something in the sky with bright blue and red lights, not blinking, and not moving. It seemed odd and I assumed it was a helicopter but I could not hear anything. Suddenly it moved quickly making a tight arc. Then it hovered again, and in a swift movement took off at a great speed and I lost sight of it.
This too was spooky. I am not a big believer in UFO's, but I called Eve and said I had just seen one. Nothing familiar could explain this object, its lights, or the way it moved. It was not a plane or a helicopter. It was spooky.
One more thing happened. The next day I got into may car at the train station on my way home from work and when I turned on the radio it was tuned to a bluegrass station. I do not listen to bluegrass. I turned around to see if anyone was in my backseat.
I figured I could explain that though. Maybe in turning off my radio when I left my car in the morning my hand just moved the radio dial. And with the UFO, I am wondering if it was someone playing with a motorozied model airplane . There was a park close to where I was. That could explain that.
Tom Jones and "What's New Pussycat" though defies rational explanation. The randomness of the universe. Spooky.
